Yesterday we lost a champion. Al Whitlow built the foundation of our Club as he served as executive director for 13 years ... each year strengthening the programs while serving more of our community's children. This picture of Al, taken Friday night at our fundraising event, is exactly how we will remember him. With that infectious smile, glimmer in his eye and Boys & Girls Club near his heart. Thank you Al Whitlow - for your strength, your wisdom and your leadership! Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this time and during the upcoming holiday season. ... Prayers of comfort and peace for his family and all who knew and loved him. A champion for sure who had an impact on so many lives.

Awesome time last night at our Wine Tasting Event at Shady Creek Winery! THANK YOU to everyone that came out and supported BGCMC through this fundraising effort!

On this Great Future Friday, meet new Board Member Holly Martinez. Joined in August, Holly said, “I'm fortunate that I get to see the Boys & Girls Club in action at Springfield everyday! What I find to be most fulfilling is the amount of endless opportunities that are available for club members. The homework help, tutoring from high school students, friendly interactions with staff and students, etc. makes my heart so happy to know that our community is providing such a wonderful opportunity for our children.” She said that she likes how the board members all come from such different backgrounds within their career fields and combine together with ideas that they hope will make BGCMC even more successful than it already is. What does she like best about the Club? “The mission/vision that the club stands behind and the continued support that they're providing for the future of our community. It's amazing that we have such incredible staff members that come together to provide for our children after school.” In her new position, she hopes to “raise even more funds and awareness for the BGCMC. It's always a wonderful sense of gratitude and self-worth when you're able to give back to the community that helped provide for you. Being a homegrown girl, I'm thrilled to help support the development of our children through the Boys & Girls Club board.” Holly is a Curriculum Coach at Springfield Elementary School. She said she loves cooking and running. “Anything from a 5k to a full marathon is therapeutic to me!” ... See MoreSee Less
